When I bought Audirvana years ago, I was told that the one-time price would be it. I paid for it thinking that I would get unlimited updates. Then they came up with their bogus subscription service and virtually abandoned the people who bought what they thought was all they would have to pay from then on.

Audirvana may be a great platform, but their approach sucked from the time they decided needed to make more money off the backs of people who originally bought their product thinking that would be all they would be paying. Like chervokas I am using the old Audirvana and never gave a second thought to the new subscription plan. I use it solely for streaming Qobuz since the Qobuz player for Windows has always been buggy in its performance on my PC.

I use JRiver for my local files and have no desire to switch at this point. I’m in the minority since I’m a user who prefers to keep my local library separate from my streaming library. If Audirvana offered a new model that focused on streaming only for a one-time fee I’d be interested. For now I am using the old 3. This limits processor activity during playback and protects the music from playback jitter and possible signal interference by stabilizing the computer power supply and limiting processor activity to the bare minimum: minus 0. Today, most DACs operate at very high internal frequencies and low resolution. This conversion involves oversampling.

Reactions: Tinman What exactly does that add though? Surely bit-perfect is as good as it gets, the ones and zeros delivered to your DAC entirely unadulterated. Variations in CPU load during playback will be beyond Audirvana’s control as they will be caused by the operating system and other software. Those of you asking me to test this: I have. I already owned two bit-perfect players and bought another two bit perfect and installed another open source bit perfect player to test against Audirvana. Audirvana sounded „better“ but it was the only one of five or six players to sound different. All testing on OS X Measuring the difference: the difference is subtle enough the only way to measure it besides with one’s ears would be to pipe the output back into a high quality input interface and diff the files.

The difference between Audirvana and bit perfect is clearly audible. Veri said:. Sounded „better“, „clearly audible“, bla-bla-bla. Still waiting for anything other than plausible explanations Alec.

So far you’ve got nothing. Yes, there are other „things“ in the signal processing besides oversampling algorithms in Audirvana’s software which improve sound quality. Feel free to try yourself with the trial period. Side to side tests with five different bit perfect players which all sound identical on 96 kHz 24 bit tracks vs Audirvana which offers heightened stereo separation stereo processing and slightly more presence a subtle boost in the mid-treble is nothing?

Publisher’s own claim to improve the sound is nothing? While the talk in the music streaming segment is all about Roon these days, Audirvana is trying to grab its share of the pie with its latest iteration,. It also offers more than 65, internet radio stations updated weekly, more than 55, podcasts to listen to, on any subjects and from everywhere, a search by country, language, genre, audio stream quality, popularity function and the addition of new radio stations of your choice if they are not listed in the catalogue.

Since I have downloaded Roon and Audirvana Studio in my laptop, it is simple to compare the two apps. In terms of sound quality, Audirvana Studio is the winner. Its bass is tighter and deeper, the mid is open and natural and the treble is transparent and extended. It does not have the brightness that Roon has and acoustic instruments like guitar and piano sound excellent with Audirvana Studio. I also hear more details and ambience in the songs on Audirvana Studio along with much better separation of instruments and voices.

June 26, , PM Roon-Audirvana-Jriver Tidal and my own files via Lumin. That may change depending on the future of Tidal. April 4, , AM I found this googling on the topic. We just recently upgraded our home theater speaker such that now we once again sitting at home and enjoy listening to music. Normally I listen to music in my high end car stereo system while driving. I was a longtime Spotify premium member but first found Tidal and even without hardware to decode MQA found it to produce a much better sound.

Then I found Qobuz and I’m able to stream that directly to my Onkyo receiver via dlna and it works great, sounds markedly better than Tidal. So, I’d decided to go with Qobuz, connecting it to my receiver via dlna using the mconnect app. Then I kept hearing about Audirvana so installed a free trial of that and first tried it directly from my laptop over my computer bookshelf speakers.

Definitely a positive difference vs playing through the native Qobuz app. Then I tested the same songs to my home theater system using mconnect and then the Audirvana remote app. No question Audirvana sounds better, warmer and richer, the mids and highs not as shrill. And Roon has no dlna support and I’m not interested in buying something like a Blusound 2i. So, in the car, just streaming directly from Qobuz on my iphone to my Pioneer head unit.

And it sounds amazing. And it sounds fabulous. I really like what Qobuz is doing, I like that it’s not using MQA, and I like that their recommendations aren’t trying to shove hip hop and rap down my throat like Tidal does. I’m more a combo of classic rock, classic jazz and classical. A given listening session might have Springsteen, Supertramp, Coltrane and Bach, lol.

I’d love to hear what other Qobuz subscribers are doing and how they utilize the service. I think Qobuz is going to take a lot of business from Tidal. April 4, , PM Roon-Audirvana-Jriver Welcome!

A recent post where ‚bit perfect‘ was mentioned also mentioned Audirvana. I downloaded the studio version maybe the the other version might have been better and have been giving it a trial run. I like that Audirvana can have my music library correlate with my Qobuz subscription, handily putting all of it in one place. I also realise that Roon does this as well but it’s expensive.

I’ve use JRMC in the past but have struggled to get things working, especially my media library. JRiver will also connect with Qobuz apparently. So what have I got and what am I looking for? I have a Kaiser Baas Soundshift attached to my HiFi which accepts DLNA connections and it does work with my iPad One major issue is that the majority of my music is classical and while I have it very neatly catalogued on the HD in folders, Audirvana doesn’t present it this way and I suspect that Roon would be similar.

So which should I get? I’ve used JRMC in the past but found that their interface was not as intuitive as I would have liked. Based on what I’ve got and what I want, what would you recommend and why? Location: Michigan, USA. I wouldn’t bother with Plex. It’s awesome for video content, but it’s really not made for music. As for your others, the only one I have used is Roon, and I love it, but I do suspect it would have trouble with your classical library.

You could give the free trial a go and see how it handles it. I’ve been super happy with my lifetime subscription, but I got in before the price increases. However, if I was presented with that option now, I would still do it. DyersEve , Jun 29, Rolltide likes this. Location: Katy, TX. I use JRiver, but it’s more of Swiss Army knife than it is strictly for music.

I use it mostly for audio, but my brother uses it mostly for video. You can link a tablet or a smart phone to control it, so you don’t really need to output to video to play music, but it’s best to use the video interface for setting it up. As far as setting it up, you could consult the forums at the JRiver for instructions on how to set it up. There are countless thread there.

And if you can’t find what you’re looking for ask, somebody will have a solution. But JRiver is really nice if you want to cue up albums. It’s really easy to add albums or songs at the end of the playlist.

You could get a streaming deck, but I have computers laying around and JRiver will run on even the most modest systems. It’ll run on a raspberry pi, so really it doesn’t need much at all. Yes it does take some time to get it work properly, but once you have it set up, it’s easy to maintain and just works really well.

Kal Rubinson , gd0 and wolfyboy3 like this. Location: Miami, FL. I have used Plex, JRiver, and Roon. Just get Roon. I found J-River great for that purpose but was tired of having a separate routine for using Spotify as I started streaming more and more. Audirvana, the old version not studio, works but it doesn’t really integrate your library with streaming. They are two different categories. You search your library or you search your streaming but not both at the same time.

Roon does all that, except easy tagging. It works with external vendors unlike JRiver. Search a song or artist and it searches everywhere, your library and your streaming connection and then returns all options. And you can save searches as bookmarks. A simple point and click will pull up a previous saved search.

I was on the fence with Roon for years until I finally dug into and understood what it is. It’s a search db with links and suggestions for similar things. It allows you to get lost in dives into similar artists, genres and songs. The others aren’t in Roon’s space even though they share similar options. Kyhl , Jun 29, Location: Mass. Can you use an iPad in the music room to control the music files upstairs which are connected to the main PC? I hope this is not confusingly stated. PC in one room with music files and I assume that is where the JRivers program resides. Music listening is downstairs in a separate room but connected via Ethernet to the router which is connected to the main PC. Is this possible? Would be set up similar to Roon. I also have Roon setup but I don’t like the interface. Reckoner , Jun 30,

Guys read the thread more attentively please before barking. Damien specifically answers a customer in French, in which I’m fluent : How much more clear does it have to be? The publisher himself is claiming that he’s sweetening the signal.

Otherwise Audirvana would sound just like all the other about half a dozen bit-perfect players for OS X. I actually went to the trouble to compare them all before reaching this conclusion. Why do you think Audirvana sounds better? Because it’s more bit-perfect? Surely you realise that bit-perfect is an absolute.

I can’t find it out now, but amirm has a test graph of stereo separation for one of the DACs he tested which shows a blurry line in the middle instead of a clean one. It surprised him in an otherwise perfect measurement performance. He mentions that he did the test with Audirvana playback. I’d suggest amirm do some bit perfect playback tests between Audirvana and the applications I mentioned but Amir is a Windows lifer, considering his past.

He could test Audirvana against foobar which I also successfully tested on OS X for identical bit-perfect playback though the OS X foobar is a limited feature beta version. Oh, and my opinion, Audirvana sweetening is successful for most music. Damien knows what his business as a coder and he’s got a good ear.

Just don’t claim it’s bit-perfect. Still, I’m astonished to find so many Audirvana users among men of science though. What a strange world. My one serious criticism of the built-in sweetening in Audirvana: Plisson should allow users to turn off the Audirvana filters with a checkbox to allow real bit-perfect playback. Then the publisher is either playing both ends against the middle or you are misunderstanding some of his utterances. But this page is pretty clear Tks said:.

Can I read the paper with the tests performed? A link would be appreciated. I’d like to see how it was performed to make sure there aren’t any appreciable invalidation potentials.

Guys are you too indolent to open up Audirvana and compare its output with a couple of other bit perfect players through your own DAC and amplification system speaker or headphone, the effect is strong enough to hear even via speakers?

Or are you so untrusting of your own ears that you cannot do a simple AB test to check sound even against distinctly audible difference? I was looking for a player for HD files in the end I decided I don’t really care about playback of HD files, unless offered affordably streamed , trialed Amazon HD, didn’t like it, discovered and bought Primephonic for HD classical – two month free trial ; half price first year while it lasts – which I really enjoy.

For pop and folk, I’ll stick to Spotify and deal with its sound limitations for now apparently hires is coming. In fairness to Audirvana, the sweetening probably applies to CD and MP3 files as well did not thoroughly test this, thoroughly tested hires PCM and DSD , thought the sweetening probably works best with higher quality masters requires clean input.

If you Veri and several others run the side by side test and come back with input which differs from mine, i. If you also hear the same improvement I did, then it’s time for someone who is set up to record back high resolution audio bit perfectly and diff the files to test several players vs Audirvana. This test involves recording back the output of actual HD music files at at least 96 kHz 24 bit, not some test tones at It requires pro gear and the attendant expertise.

I don’t own Audirvana, my trial has expired and I’m not set up to do that high resolution recording right now so I won’t be able to do that part of the test for you.

It is not user friendly, not intuitive and is inconvenient. The metadata can get mixed up and the catalogue is definitely not as extensive as Spotify. Also, the current version is kind of buggy and unstable. Some Audirvana 3. Whether the sound quality alone will convince enthusiasts to subscribe to Audirvana Studio is a moot point.

However, if later iterations of Audirvana Studio can retain its excellent sound quality, increase its catalogue and improve its UI to be as good as Spotify or Tidal or Roon, I will quickly subscribe to it. Try it and check out its sound quality, catalogue and UI for yourself.

Plays from RAM too.

The rest of the quote has a feel of the same kind of, blind the customer with pseudoscience waffle, that high-end cable manufacturers use. I did however try running the free trial, except Audirvana refused to allow me to add my music to it’s library. The instructions online state that one should click the „add a folder“ button under „local“, there was no such button and I am really not bothered enough to do anything about it.

Foobar just works and works well. One thing a computer is designed to do above all else, because otherwise it simply would not work, is work with ones and zeros without them becoming corrupted. Indeed it does, I don’t pay for software when the free trial doesn’t work properly!

I really don’t care what you think but, I followed the instructions provided on the website. Don’t expect any further responses, I’m done with this and, done with this website. The publisher himself admitted to sweetening the sound. Listening tests show that Audirvana sounds „better“ than other bit-perfect players. This isn’t proof enough for you? I’m sorry if these facts shake the foundations of your orthodoxy. I’m happy that heresy is no longer punished by immolation. Click to expand Rottmannash Major Contributor Forum Donor.

Jul 01,  · Having used F2k, JRiver, Audirvana, and finally Roon, in that order. Roon hands down is the winner. F2k is a good free solution but really clunky in my view. JRiver tagging is perfectly simple to use. I miss it. The downside of JRiver is they won’t ever work with anyone else and won’t even entertain the idea. No integration with internet streaming. Jun 27,  · Audirvana Studio vs Roon. Audirvana has recently launched Audirvana Studio to replace its Version While the talk in the music streaming segment is all about Roon these days, Audirvana is trying to grab its share of the pie with its latest iteration, Audirvana Studio offers integration with Tidal, Qobuz and High Res Audio and “more to. Feb 13,  · Audirvana’s is very Amateurish. JRiver has a remote It is incredible. JRiver has very few bugs. Audirvana has many. I prefer JRiver, but I do not use upsampling. I can see how Audirvana could be better if you were to upsample. Conclusion. Based on my statements JRiver wins hands down. I do own both (Audirvana 1 & 2, JRiver 18, 19 & 20). Dave. Apr 04,  · Roon-Audirvana-Jriver With several choices available in both streaming services and cataloging interfaces, just wondering what combination you have found to work best. (feel free to include any and all other resources than those listed) I recently changed from a Mac mini running Tidal/Jriver to Tidal direct to MicroRendu / Lynn Kazoo for a very.
May 02,  · Audirvana was/is a playback software for streaming and local files. It was started in , which predates Roon by a few years. It was always a licensed local software client, not sofware as a service. After the advent of Roon and it’s SaaS model and the explosive adoption of people paying for Roon as a service, Audirvana launched Audrivana. Apr 07,  · (Audirvana, JRiver, Roon, MusicBee, etc.) Otherwise @amirm and others on Windows would just run foobar, which is free, bit perfect and awesome. OS X is more complicated with Swinsian, Colibri, Bitperfect, Fidelia, Decibel all offering a slightly different feature set (some offer great playlists, others offer AU plugin integration, others. Oct 05,  · Audirvāna loads, decodes and processes the entire audio data of a track prior to playback in a buffer memory. This limits processor activity during playback and protects the music from playback jitter and possible signal interference by stabilizing the computer power supply and limiting processor activity to the bare minimum: minus % CPU.
